Comelec Receives Initial Batch of PCOS Machines
Smartmatic-TIM has already delivered an initial batch of 20 Precint Count Optical Scan machines to the Commission on Elections.
Comelec says the machines will be deployed to the various regions for the training of 180 of its personnel. These will also be used to familiarize voters and other stakeholders with the actual voting procedure that will be observed inĀ the 2010 elections.
Here's an excerpt from Inquirer.net report:
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the machines will be deployed in 16 regional offices to train key stakeholders such as poll officials, teachers who will serve as board of election officials and poll watchdogs.
These developmental units contain the basic operation configuration of poll machines the Comelec intends to use next year, said Smartmatic-TIM spokesperson Gene Gregorio.
With the delivery of the the first 20 machines, Comelec completed payment of 5 percent of the P 7.2 billion contract cost.
Smartmatic-TIM is expected to deliver 42,000 PCOS machines before the end of the year and another 40,000 units early next year.
